We can use Future Simple with will in a few different situations. See the following situations:
Future Simple to Express Prediction
The Future Simple is used to say what we think will happen. It is a bit like a prediction for future. It is never used to express our arrangement or our intention. Let’s see the following examples :
- He will not pass the test. He never reads books.
- According to the forecast, It will rain tomorrow.
- They are engaged. They’ll get married soon.
- I’ve lost my job. I’ll be broke.
- It’s the end of the year. Everybody will celebrate New Year’s eve tonight.
Future Simple with Will to Express Sudden Decision, Future Actions and Willingness
The Future Simple is also used when we decide to do something at the time of speaking. We also use it to express future actions or events. Let’s see the following examples :
- “Can you hear somebody knock at the door?” “Yes. I’ll open the door, then.” (He/she decides to open the door at the time of speaking.)
- “Look at the sky. It’s cloudy.” “I’ll get a raincoat.” (sudden decision)
- He will finish his homework tomorrow. (future actions)
- I’ll be there soon. (future actions/sudden decision)
- She won’t be there. (future actions)
The Future Simple is often used with these words : probably, expect, sure, think. Let’s see the following examples :
- I’ll probably be late this evening, Babe.
- Please, meet my sister, Helen. I’m sure you’ll like her.
- I expect I’ll win the lottery.
- I think Barca will beat Real Madrid this evening.
Note : In British English, it is common to replace ‘will’ with ‘shall only for the subjects ‘I’ and ‘we’.

Choose the correct word in the parentheses to complete the sentence.

Write T if the sentence is true or F if it is false. Let’s see the examples first!
- I will play tennis on Monday. (false) In this sentence ‘will’ is used to express arrangement. So, it’s wrong.
- You will know the results of the entrance test tomorrow. (true) In this sentence ‘will’ is used to say what will happen in the future. So, it’s correct.
1. I will go to the party next Saturday night.
2. I’m sure he will win the match.
3. A: What’s your plan for your next vacation?
B: We will go to Grand Cayman next month.
4. You don’t have to ask me. I’ll give you anything you want from me.
5. Hurry up. We’ll miss the plane.
